Village Gardening Club outing to Denmans Garden, West Sussex

In early September a group of members boarded a coach for our annual day's outing.  This year we went to Denmans Gardens, Fontwell, West Sussex.  After lunch at a local garden centre, we went to The Old Vicarage at Washington, West Sussex.

Today I am showing some of the photos from Denmans Gardens.  I visited this garden many years ago when it was very new and it has certainly changed.  Not the design really, just that the planting has obviously grown and filled out.  There was a lot to see.

Denmans was originally created by Joyce Robinson, a gravel garden pioneer, and was then joined by renowned landscape designer John Brookes, MBE.   A Grade II registered post-war garden, Denmans Garden has year-round colour, lots of unusual plants,  gravel gardens, a faux dry riverbed, a beautiful walled garden and a conservatory.   Plants are left to self-seed around and those not wanted are removed. Joyce Robinson called it "Glorious Disarray".  I quite like the effect.

Denmans is an RHS Partner Garden, and RHS members can visit free of charge at times listed in the RHS Year Book and in the monthly magazine.

Next stop lunch and then to The Old Vicarage at Washington.
