Chilworth Gunpowder Mills - Part 2

Continuing our walk through the Gunpowder Mills.  It seems strange now strolling through this pleasant part of Surrey to be reminded every so often that from the17th to the 20th-century instruments of war were manufactured here.

Still on Gunpowder Mills land - I imagine this is one of the worker's properties.

We had to duck under a fallen tree here.  It had obviously fallen some time ago and looked very 'dead'.  However, I spotted this small shoot emerging from the side of the tree.

Lots of odd pieces of ironwork dotted about at the side of the footpath.

We have now reached the 'steam incorporating mills'.  Worn millstones were stood on their side and covered in earth to provide protection from accidental blasts.  2 bedstones, the remains of the boiler house chimney, and a steam engine bed remain.  The chimney had a 'spark scrubber' fitted to stop flyaway sparks.

We left the area at this point because the light was fading and planned another trip the see the rest of the area another evening.
