Trip to Australia October 2023 - Part 6 - Urrbrae House

Urrbrae House is a beautiful bluestone two-story mansion that replaced a large single-story house believed to have been constructed in 1846.    The estate was owned by Robert Forsyth Mcgeorge and acquired by Peter Waite in the mid-1870s, and his new mansion was completed in 1891.  Urrbrae was the name given by Robert Mcgeorge - Urr after his hometown in Scotland, and brae meaning a slope, or hillside.  On the death of Peter and Matilda Waite in 1922, the property was handed over to the University of Adelaide by their daughters.

The garden which is full of roses traces the history and development of roses in the 10th Century and features roses from each decade.   The powerful scent of roses is apparent as soon as you walk among them.

I saw a couple of these metal information books which were fixed to the tables.
