Hartland Quay and Westward Ho, N. Devon. June 2023

For our final day in North Devon, Angie and I decided we would drive along the coast to Hartland Quay. Angie had been there before, many years ago.   After we got off the A road, the road down to Hartland Quay was very narrow, very steep in places, and very windy.    But we got there!

The name Hartland Quay refers to the hotel in the bay.  The area is very 'Jurassic' and quite beautiful.  Films such as Daphne du Maurier's "Rebecca" and "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Pie Society" were filmed here, as well as "Top Gear" (although I can't quite imagine what they were doing here).   Angie and I spent quite a long time here taking photographs until I fell inside the large rock with the hole in the middle!!  It was made worse because I was trying to save my camera.  I ended up with a grazed head and hand and a bad shoulder.  The camera was fine.

Th Island you can see on the left is Lundy Island

This is the rock where I fell

After a light lunch we drove back, via Westward Ho.  Neither of us had been there before.  We were only there an hour, Driving through the town, it looked like a typical seaside town.  The front seemed to be mainly a fun fair, but the beach looked wonderful.  The tide was out leaving a really huge sandy bay with rocks to the rear and one side.   As we were there only a very short time, we just spend our time photographing around the rock pools.

Sadly the next day we had to return home.   I have to admit it was not an easy journey with a sore shoulder - changing gears was not easy.   But we made it in good time with one stop for a light lunch in a garden centre.    Thanks Angie for your company.
