New Year visit to Bournemouth

Brian's birthday falls on 1st January and in recent years we have gone down to Bournemouth for a few days, travelling down on his birthday.  We find most people who have gone away to celebrate New Year are leaving for home on the1st, so we have never had a problem getting a room.

We had decided that this year we would go over to Poole Harbour.  We have always enjoyed Poole and always visit the well-known Poole Pottery.   However, we were very disappointed to find they are no longer in Poole.  A Google search told me they are now owned by Denbies.  This firm was unable to negotiate with the owners of the Poole Pottery site, so Poole Pottery is now in Stoke on Trent.  It is such a shame as Poole Pottery has been in Poole since it was founded in 1873.

I am sure we will still visit Poole, as we like the quayside, but it won't be the same.

Very expensive boats are made here

Scout camps are still held on the Island

We walked into Boscome from our hotel and had a walk along the pier.  It was very cold and very blustery.   The following two pictures were the only ones I took looking either side of the pier.

  1. I'm sorry you were disappointed. The views of the beach are beautiful, so it was a pity that it was cold. Greetings.

  2. It was disappointing Giga, but they are still making their beautiful ceramics, just not near us.
