Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition.

In the past, Angie and I have been lucky to go on a U3A coach outing to London around Christmas time, but it was not organised last Christmas. So we decided we would make our own way there via train and underground before the exhibition closes next month.

The first stop was the Natural History Museum, where the exhibition is held.   I had already bought tickets for the exhibition online, so we were able to just walk in.   Unfortunately, no photography was allowed in the exhibition, although we did see some people sneaking a snap!   The exhibition does go on tour (the last one was in Adelaide when I was visiting there last October), but you can see it online here - look for the gallery and tour information..

After a welcome sandwich and cup of tea, we went next door to the Victoria and Albert Museum to see their new Photography exhibition.  It was interesting, but I would not go again.   I did not find it all that informative, and the photographs on display were not all that interesting.

Following are a few of the photographs I took on our day in London.

Skeleton of The Blue Whale in the entrance of the Natural History Museum

Detail on the columns surrounding the entrance hall.

Showing the entire skeleton of The Blue Whale - it's quite impressive.

Sunlight on Darwin

Very colourfully dressed man we passed on our way to the V & A museum

On our way to the Photography exhibition, we passed this intriguing exhibition.  This is of a French wooden (?Oak) spiral staircase with balconies off each level.  Apparently the elderly lived on the first level, then the middle-aged, then the younger adults, and finally the youngest lived on the top level.

This is an oak shop front - London

Oak door from Suffolk - note the Judas door in the middle

Not sure what this was.

We were fascinated by the shadows.

Stone faces from Canterbury Cathedral

Display of old cameras outside the photography exhibition.

Outside in the sunshine in the quadrangle in the centre of the Museum

I spotted this young lady on my way out - it's a bit blurry as I was moving, and so was she.

More colourful people outside
