Day trip to Southwark - Part 2 - Southwark Cathedral and walk about

The Cathedral is right next to Borough Market, so it was not far to go.  It was all very beautiful, as cathedrals are.   Oddly I cannot find any information on its history.

Leaving the Cathedral, we walked down towards the Thames

It was a surprise to come across this replica of the Golden Hind, the ship that Drake circumnavigated the world between 1577 and 1580
It is presently berthed for repairs in St.Mary's OverieDry Dock

The Elizabeth Tower which houses Big Ben (the bell which tolls the time) now without the scaffolding it has been under for quite a few years now whilst it was all being cleaned and the clock overhauled. I'm quite impressed with this photo - it was taken with my iPhone from a (slowly) moving coach
