Three Exhibitions - April 2023
Yes - three exhibitions this month.
The first one I am extremely excited about as it is an exhibition in which I have seven of my own photographs. Three ladies from the Camera Club visited an exhibition by the Dorking Camera Club and were chatting to their members about putting up an exhibition there. We discussed the possibility of the Camera Club having an exhibition in our local Arts Centre. The club did have one last year, having been offered space for a week free as they had someone drop out. It was not deemed a great success, so they did not enquire about a booking for this year. However, when Angie went in the ask costings, etc., she was offered two weeks at half price and then a third week free! It was too good an opportunity to pass by and we immediately snapped it up and decided we would ask the other three ladies in the Club if they would be interested. Of course, they all said 'yes'! So we called our exhibition "Our View". It was quite a rush to decide which photos to use. We had decided on a panel of six photos each, plus one 'blue' panel - each of us displaying a 'blue' themed photograph. Frames were purchased from Ikea, and prints were printed and mounted. Anne's husband came along to help us hang them.
I think the men in the club were a tad put out, and a few tongue-in-cheek sexist remarks were apparently made, but we made it quite clear we were promoting the Club. We are booked from the 15th April to the 4th May. However, now some of them have seen it, they are quite impressed with our efforts. We have advertised it extensively and have had some very favourable reviews. We all feel very proud of ourselves. I have to admit that I have never entered a print in a club competition, but would definitely put photos into an exhibition like this if we decided to do it again.

Sorry for the poor quality of the photos - and the light reflections. I took these with my iPhone.
The second and third exhibitions Angie and I visited on Friday in London. We went to see the Landscape Photographer of the Year exhibition at Waterloo Station. You can see the images here. We were very impressed with the standard.
The third exhibition was the Sony World Photography Awards at Somerset House. See here. Again, we were impressed and felt some of the photographs were very thought-provoking. Some we just didn't understand, and some we just did not like. I thought there were an awful lot of 'smokey/misty' photographs - just not clear at all. You may have read that the original winner declined his award as he had made the photograph with AI - very noble of him to admit it, but he said he wanted to see if his picture would be accepted. I don't think he expected it to win. But the whole question of AI in photography has opened a can of worms.
So after the galleries, we went walk-about with our cameras (Sony's of course). More photos shortly.
All images in the exhibition look wonderful. I wish I could have been there to admire them all especially yours Gwen. Well done to you all
