Guildford Cathedral and The Knife Angel 24.3.23

It was a very wet and blustery day when Angie and I popped up to the Cathedral after collecting fuchsias from the nursery for the village garden club.   The first stop was coffee - or rather hot chocolate, in the Refectory.  We were on a fairly tight schedule as Angie needed to be home by 1 pm.   It was still raining when we went outside, so we walked across to the Cathedral and took some photos.

We decided we really must get outside and take photos of the Knife Angel, rain or no rain, as it was only scheduled to be in Guildford until the end of March.

The sculpture is 27ft. high, weighs 3.5 tons, and is made from over 100,000 seized and surrendered knives and blades.  It was specifically created to highlight the negative effects of violent behaviour whilst solidifying our critical need for social change.   It also acts as a beautiful memorial designed to celebrate the lives of those who have been lost through violent and thoughtless actions.   The sculpture is very moving to see and depicts the question "why?"

The sculpture is moving around the country and will be transported to Bradford for the month of April

I found it quite moving to go from the quiet and calm of the cathedral to the violent sculpture outside - a very thought-provoking and powerful image.

Apologies for the poor quality of the Angel photos - it was very blustery and wet outside.
