Snappy friends visit to RHS Wisley Gardens - January 2022

It was a very dull and cold day when three of us met up at RHS Wisley Gardens. The temperature did not get above 3°C all day.  So we opted to just visit the Glasshouse where there is always something to see and photograph no matter what the weather is doing outside.

There will be quite a few leaf photo's here.  There are not many flowers out in January.    Some interesting forms in the large leaves.

This is a white flowered Bird of Paradise plant.  It was very tall, almost reaching the roof of the glasshouse.

The bark of something - I can't remember what of,

I wish you could smell the scent from the orange blossom - it was wonderful

And oranges as well

Bird of Paradise

This is not an alien!   The unopened flowers of an exotic climber on the end wall of the glasshouse.  We couldn't find a label,

Lachenalias

An aloe in flower - much much bigger than the one I have at home.

.

I couldn't find a label for this pretty lonely flower

I wondered how large those newly planted cactus/succulents in the front will grow?

Big plant - big spines!

 This is Paranomus reflexis

The hippo is back!

I have this fern growing in my garden, but not at big as this one

Begonia leaves

This is Calliandra tergemina v. emarginata

Philodendron melanochrysum - the leaves were over 3 feet long, at least.

View of the viewing platform

The small orchid section in the glasshouse was closed - they seemed to be re-organising it.  We saw these few cymbidiums on our way out of the glasshouse.

Side view of the waterfall

Another view - using a different setting on the camera - I think this looks like grey hair.

A few more orchids

Rhododendron in flower by the glasshouse door.

The RHS has two vintage vans parked near the glasshouse cafeteria. They sell barbecued food and drinks from them in the summer.

Trying to photograph outside the box!

After lunch we walked slowly back to the exit via the pond.
