CAMERA CAPERS

It has been really really cold here in the UK  this month, so I haven't been out with my camera, but we had arranged to have lunch with Sue and Malcolm at The Anchor pub which sits on the banks of the Wey Navigation at Pyrford Lock. . As the day was quite a bit warmer than it has been, and the weather was fine, I took my small camera.  The Anchor is a really pleasant pub - but like most pubs these days, it is mainly a restaurant.   I couldn't find any history about the pub, but a sign outside said 1777, although the building itself looked fairly modern.   The River Wey Navigation is one of the oldest river navigations in the country, being created between 1651 and 1653 to provide a highway to London for Guildford merchants.  It was extended to Godalming in the 18th century and is almost twenty miles long, connecting Godalming to the River Thames at Weybridge.  Three of us from the Camera Club visited Polesdon Lacey today to take photos of their Christmas decorations.   It was a very very wet day, so we were glad we were going to be inside.   Only the ground floor was open, and I think we were told there were 14 Christmas trees.  So, enjoy them as much as we did. The following snowy scenes were laid out on a snooker table.  The scenes are all depicting the song "The Twelve Days of Christmas".  The buildings and fir trees were origami and made with sheet music.  It was amazing and quite beautiful. On this tree, visitors could write their own Christmas message and add it to the tree. "Cheers" and a Happy, Healthy, and Peaceful Year in 2023 to all my readers.  

After a really wet November it was good to join the U3A coach trip to London on the 1st December.  Each year in December the Natural History Museum hosts the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition.  The exhibition did not disappoint.  Sadly I was not able to take photographs inside the exhibition, but you can see the exhibits  here . We had time after lunch to visit the Victoria & Albert Museum next door.  Angie and I had a look around the fashion through the ages exhibit and then a look around the shop - always interesting items for sale here. Back at the Natural History Museum, we spent some time taking photos in the huge entrance hall, and before making our way back to board the coach for home, we made a short detour along a side street for a spot of street photography.
