Visit to Eltham Palace - October 2021 Part 1

Image
Whan an amazing visit this was.  Angie and I were lucky to be able to go on this trip with the U3A - it was very popular apparently and the coach was full.  Eltham Palace is in South London and is managed by English Heritage.   There has been a building on this site since William the Conqueror's time. Monarchs often stayed here and hunted in the surrounding countryside.  The medieval great hall was apparently quite dilapidated when Stephen Courtauld, and his wife Virginia, leased the property in the 1930s and were granted permission to build a property adjacent to the great hall.  They were granted permission with the proviso that they restored the medieval great hall (it wouldn't happen today!).    I took so many photos that I will write this up in three parts, starting with the Great Hall In Part 2:  photos of the house.

Winkworth Arboretum - October 2021

Image
Three Snappy Friends visited Winkworth Arboretum in early October to capture the changing colours of autumn with our cameras.   I think we were a bit too early as the colours were only just changing.  It has been an odd year weatherwise.  I am writing this in early November and there are still a lot of leaves on the trees and not much change in leaf colour.    But, as always, it was a very pleasant afternoon and ended as usual with tea and cake from the cafe.

September end of month iPhone pics

Very few photos on my iPhone in September.  Explanations above them. Chess matches at the top of the High Street - these seemed to be school children and inexperienced adults These seemed to be young adults and more experienced players. The Camera Club meets each week in the Baptist Church.  Previously we have always been in the 'school room' behind the church, but because we now have our meetings Zoomed for those members who may be vulnerable and do not wish to attend, we have moved into the main church, where the wifi is much better. These winding stairs are at the back of the church to where the technical stuff is I am fascinated by this roof - I am sure the beams must be reinforced in some way.
